1,000 Thank You’s

By

Although this site has existed since 2015, I barely touched it before this year and only figured out what to use it for in January. Since January 15, I’ve posted some new fiction of one sort or another every day and today received my 1,000th like.

1,000 likes is nothing, either relatively to you well-established bloggers and writers, or literally since ‘likes’ don’t pay bills, but they do mean a lot to a creative person since they help quell the constant feeling that you’re peeing into the wind and the whatthehellamidoingthisfor monster that lives in the pit of my stomach.

So, really, I just wanted to say thank you to those who read my stuff and also to the WordPress community as a whole, which I’ve found to be so supportive and enthusiastic. There are so many great writers dreaming up dreams every day for the love of the craft, and so thank you to them too for providing so much entertainment in the last couple of months.

I’ve only just started here. I intend to be doing this for many years to come, whether I end up published or not, because I love it and I’m excited for all the stories that are yet to be written. I also hope I am improving as I go. So thanks again and happy reading and writing ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t write for the likes, but they sure make me feel that at least my work is reaching someone and that someone has actually bothered to read it (usually). Furthermore the lovely comments I have received here on wordpress have been a big step forward for my confidence. Well done and keep up the wonderful writing ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you and you too ๐Ÿ™‚ You’re absolutely right, and it is all about confidence. I spent the first two months of my MA thinking ‘do I belong here, who am I kidding?’ because I was surrounded by very bright students, a lot of them American (therefore vocal!) and recent graduates. Getting for a first for my experimental fiction made such a difference though, because then I knew I deserved to be in the same class.

  3. Congratulations Ben.. you are doing a great job here. 1000 likes is massive for someone like me who is sitting on 399 hoping someone will give me one to take it to 400 LOL. Keep up the good work mate.

  5. Hi Ben, keep it up – perseverance is very much a part of being a writer! Very few of us achieve overnight success. But we keep going because we love the craft!

    1. Thanks Helen. You’re absolutely right, of course. It’s nice to get encouragement along the way, just to know you’re not off on completely the wrong path ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Lately I’ve read some interesting opinions. One writer was annoyed that he had so many followers but few likes per post. Another wrote about anxiety each time a post didn’t hit 20 likes.
    Weird.
I just write to write because I have to, because I feel it like glass in my bones, like I’ll break if I don’t.
But I suppose everyone has their reasons.
