There Is A Dark Place

I thought it might be nice to share this on a Sunday evening. We all have those times as a writer, hell, as a human being, when it doesn’t feel like it’s worth all the bother. It’s a slippery slope my friends.

You start having dark thoughts, you retreat into yourself and before you know it you’re searching for a new theme for your blog because you think some swanky new widgets will make you feel better.

Don’t do it people. Find your buoyancy aid – the thing you can reach for to help get some metaphorical air. Of course, real air is even better, so go for a walk, a long walk, and when you get back, do your thing. This video is my buoyancy aid. It’s called There is a Dark Place by Tom Rosenthal and it’s the most fantastically silly, inspiring, moving, funny three minutes 37 seconds; it’s whatever you want it to be really.

Anyway, I just thought I’d share this video because it’s been my go-to song more often than not. There are a handful of others – Don’t Look Down by The Divine Comedy, Floridada by Animal Collective, Neighbourhood #1 by Arcade Fire, Cape Canaveral by Conor Oberst – and maybe I’ll share them in time, but right now, this hits the spot.
