Pride and Fall

The village paperboy was given a wonderful send-off before leaving to sprint for just under 10 seconds for his country. Pride poured through the streets. The same mob saw him home, picketed the newsagent, demanded answers. He had run for just over 10 seconds.
‘You made us look silly.’
